Islamabad, Pakistan (AHN) – Pakistani police near the Afghanistan border have apprehended a 52-year-old American citizen they said was searching for Osama bin Laden.

Gary Faulkner, of California, a construction worker, had with him a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian literature, reported Police Chief Mumtaz Ahmed.

Faulkner was stopped near the border as he was walking from Pakistan toward the Afghanistan province of Nuristan. He reportedly told officials he had been on the hunt of bin Laden since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and had been to the area numerous times.

The United States Embassy did not confirm that Faulkner was detained, but did say they received reports that an American was detained.

Although Faulkner claimed he was not going to kill bin Laden if he found him, authorities believe the opposite to be true because of the weapons found on Faulkner.
