Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – The recent report by the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics revealed the growing gap between the nation’s elite athletic programs and majority of the other programs.

Although the independent panel did not make any specific references to any programs in the report, it particularly zeroed in on schools whose football programs are in BCS conferences.

It showed the continuing rise of budget for college athletics.

According to the report, about ten public institutions that adapt inappropriate spending on college sports as against academics are on pace to exceed $250 million annually in athletics cost by the year 2020.

Based from figures generated by Equity in Athletics Data Analysis, as reported by the Tidesports.com, the University of Alabama budget is one of the 10 largest in all of collegiate athletics.

It is in the same league as Texas, Florida and other super-giants.

Meanwhile, schools that do not have the luxury of BCS-conference funding, are trying to bridge the gap by trying to raise more money to support intercollegiate athletics, according to the Knight report.
